5 Tips for Better Business Card Scanning
By Stackit Team
Business card scanning is faster than manual entry, but the result still deserves a quick review. A few simple capture habits can help the OCR engine read names, companies, and contact details more reliably.
1. Good Lighting
Natural or even artificial light without harsh shadows gives the OCR engine the best chance at reading every character.
2. Flat Surface
Place the card on a flat, contrasting background. A dark card on a white desk (or vice versa) helps edge detection.
3. Avoid Glare
Glossy cards can reflect light into the camera. Tilt slightly if you see a bright spot on the preview.
4. Capture the Full Card
Make sure all edges are visible in the frame. The auto-crop works best when it can see the entire boundary.
5. Scan the Back Too
Many cards have additional info on the back — a second scan captures it and links it to the same contact.
